Since last time I wrote about finding out that Felix had some sensory problems, we have had a couple of ladies come from the State Infants and Toddlers program. Today we had a Speech Pathologist and a Behavior Therapist come. They asked me lots of questions about Felix and asked him questions. It was a good meeting and I was able to ask some questions, too.
Turns out Felix is very speech delayed. I thought he was, but was surprised HOW delayed he tested. He has been learning new words every day and I see his steady progress. I am not worried and since he has been accepted into the program will be receiving speech therapy.
It doesn't take a expert to tell that he has behavior issues (the lady checking us out today at Claire's would've told you that. What was I thinking taking him into CLAIRE's!?). Also, the program will provide an Occupational Therapist or Behavior Specialist to work with him weekly. I think he will respond really well to the program and will be excited to make progress. We will be assigned a therapist who will come to work with Felix once a week with speech, behavior, and some of his sensory seeking tendencies.
Also, we finally broke down and purchased a crib tent. After having a very crazy weekend with little sleep (this kid NEEDS his sleep!) we felt it was necessary. He has done really well with it so far.
Again, I appreciate all the thoughts, prayers, and blessings coming our way. Also I appreciate people who are mindful of my situation and ask about his progress. It shows you care. Thanks.
I have my in-laws here this week and that has been really nice. They are so helpful. I have been able to get out a couple times and I couldn't believe how good it felt!

I am so glad they are figuring things out. I am sure it is a relief to know that there are people who know how to work with him. Im happy your inlaws could watch him last night so you could concentrate on your other kids and relax a little last night. the pics turned out way cute! Cant wait to get em done and back to you!
So glad you got the answers and help you needed. I remember reading somewhere about a family that had 2 kids with the same thing. The mom kept one of those large plastic storage totes in her kitchen and it was full of dried beans. When her toddler started having a meltdown she would just sit him in the beans and the feel of them against his skin helped him calm down. She also kept Ziploc bags of popping corn in her purse so when they were out and about and he needed that extra sensory he could just stick his hand in the bag and focus on that. Not sure if that helps. I thought it was a cool idea.
Such great news! There is a program over here called Imua Family Services, and Kaia qualified or their free therapy (she was also speech-delayed) until she turned three. I remember those 1-hour sessions were like gold! We learned a lot of useful skills that we still implement with her. I like the "tub o' beans" idea! I bet if you used jello, the effect would last even longer! ;-) you deserve some serious downtime, my friend. I'm still looking for tickets. My MIL got hers round-trip from SLC for $430! That's how much it cost me when I used buddy passes! One of these days....
He is such a cutie! I can relate about speech delays, Cohen is doing speech and I think Jade is on her way too. It is so frustrating to not be able to communicate. It sounds like you have a lot of support coming your way and just knowing what's wrong also brings so much relief. We got a new girl in our ward and she looks just like you and is "cool" like you. Unique, crafty, confident, super nice... of course she doesn't replace you but I like that I am reminded of you when I see her.
Such cute shots. (and you look H-O-T) I'm glad you've got help on the way! He's such a cutie. Please keep us updated on his progress/your thoughts/feelings.
What a awesome feeling to know you are getting the help you and Felix need. I'm so grateful we live in a time when kids like Felix have all the help and resources they need.
Griffin had a speech delay, and will always struggle with some of his sounds. It makes me smile when people tell me they love his "accent."
It's amazing what they can do for kids these days. I'm sure that little fireball will be talking too much in no time at all :) but won't it be so nice to finally be able to avoid the communication struggles! You're such a good mom. I look up to you in many ways.
