Den of Theives (rascals)

 I had the chance to accompany my cub scouts to Day Camp this week. It was a long day! It was really well planned and went very smoothly, so it wasn't too bad. The boys did really well.

Day camp was held in a really nice park on a lake. It was a hot day but very comfortable in the shade. The boys had a lot of fun, but were pretty beat by the end of the day. It was the second day for them to be there, and it was a lot of running around.
A incredibly sweet neighbor girl watched the other kids from 10-4:30 when I got home. When I tried to pay her she said that she wouldn't take money because I was doing service, so her babysitting was also a service. She is amazing!! I hope my kids learned from her. Her mother also took Lydia to swim lessons. Thank goodness for kind friends and service oriented youth!

Last but not least

After Steve and Liam had so much fun making Liam's Pinewood Derby car, Steve and Shawna decided to come with us to see it race.

Okay, so Liam was a really good sport, but his car didn't do so great. There were a few different reasons, but I am really glad that he got to experience this (even though it broke my heart to watch his face when he came in last). They boys were so great about cheering each other on!

You can't teach an old dog new tricks...

but it turns out, you can teach a little dog new tricks.
I took Liam over to Steve's today so that they could work on Liam's Pinewood Derby car. It was so sweet to watch them. Steve did a great job teaching Liam and also letting Liam do a lot of it (safely) on his own.
This is really cool for me because woodworking is a big part of our family history. My father is a woodworker and let us work closely with him as kids. Also, my maternal grandfather and great-grandfather were both carpenters. This is pretty special that my son is learning this skill as well.

Our little wolf

 This is Liam being welcomed into his Wolf Pack at his first Pack meeting. Oh my gosh, he is so cute.

Liam's Den Leader let him lead the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. He felt really special. He really is beside himself to be in scouts. We have never really done many extra curricular activities, so this is such a fun thing for him. Not to mention all his good church and neighborhood friends are in his den.
The first day I dropped him off for den meeting all of his friends rushed over and hugged him, yelling, "Liam!" It was really cute!
Should I really have used the word "cute" twice in a post about scouting and my 8 year old son?
