Independent as a hog on ice (Happy 7th Birthday, Zoe!)

The other day I said to Travis, "Why is Zoe so .......?" Then I realized, because she is just like me. I look at Zoe and I see things that I never knew about myself. If I tried to teach Zoe to be exactly like me, she wouldn't be any more like me. This is the reason why Zoe and I have always had a special relationship.

Zoe has always had a lot of personality stuffed into a very small body. Travis says that when people would ask how she was, after she was born, he would respond, "She is so funny!" It is true. We would sit around and laugh at her, because she was so funny.

Zoe is one of the most dramatic people I have ever known. Not just with her emotions and expressions, but her imagination. She could play outside for hours dramatizing some story. The other day we looked out in the back yard and she was yelling at the fence. Travis said, "Liam and Lydia don't want to play, so she found someone else to boss around." She is a little bossy when it comes to "the L's" (Liam and Lydia) but mostly she is trying to guide them to do what she knows it best.

Zoe can pick out something good about anyone, and then express it to them. Zoe's Primary teacher called me the other day and told me that she had been teaching about talents. The teacher was mentioning the talents she had noticed about the kids. When she was done, Zoe raised her hand and said, "Your talent is teaching great lessons".

Zoe is so social. I felt a little bad last year when she never found a "best friend" in class. Until I realized that she could easily play with any of the kids, and they all liked her. She can always find a friend, whether at the park or at school.

Zoe is very concerned about others feelings. A couple months ago when Lydia started expressing interest in many of Zoe's toys, Zoe decided that they would share all of Zoe's toys. She "gave" all her toys to Lydia and lets her play with all of them.

Zoe has a plan. Whatever it might be, she always knows what she wants to happen. This is one area where we butt heads, because our plans don't always match.

Zoe is very talented. She is creative. She is excited about life. "Zoe" means life. I don't think we could have chosen a better name for her. She lives life exuberantly! We love her and she adds so much to our family.
