Camping with a one year old

Travis's work does an annual retreat/training where the families are invited. They rented a place near Stanley, ID that they had stayed last year.
I will state up front that we left early because it was too miserable to bear, but I am determined to look at it from a glass half full attitude.
First, it didn't rain the entire drive up.
Although Felix was really car sick, he didn't throw up.
Since the map to the campsite was misleading, we were fortunate to catch site of one of the others in our party so as to not get completely lost.
It was really cold, but I thankfully thought to bring all the winter coats, hats, and gloves.
Flush toilets.

Plenty of sticks to use as wands, light sabers, or swords.

Lydia was super pleased by a "treasure map" I had made for her using wood and charcoal from the fire. Am I MacIver or what?

A lake nearby for throwing rocks in.

Friends for playing with.
The kids all had a fabulous time. I felt really horrible leaving early. Felix just wouldn't sleep. He was super cold, super cranky, and really in danger. If he wasn't putting rocks in his mouth he was tripping on them. If you have ever taken a child camping you remember the dangers of the fire...etc. We were pretty miserable trying to keep him alive and he was sick of us pulling him out of everything.
He WAS happy in the backpack though. We went on lots of walks. At one point the kids found some snow and were throwing snowballs at each other. He thought is was hilarious! I was filming him over my shoulder while he was in the pack.

oh man. Kudos to you guys to try camping with little Felix. It can actually be nice and relaxing.....when you don't have little ones.
I love the map you made for Lydia. What a great idea!
And oh my goodness, that movie clip is priceless. What a doll!
We would love to get together over the 4th weekend if you guys have time! We will be around, so if you can fit a visit in please do!!

I love the video of Felix! He is getting so big! We just went camping with the kids this weekend. It was ok but I kept thinking next year when Leah is 3 it will be a lot better.

Camping with a one year old does sound quite interesting! I will put this into account next time quin wants to go camping! We sure miss that Felix's smile! I can't believe how big he has grown! By the Way, we took over the Turley shady spot in the church parking lot! Haha. I think of you every sunday as I pull in and the kids yell "Turley shady spot".

I dare ANYONE to try watching that video without AT LEAST smiling. That is so darling.

Way to look on the bright side. We've come home from a camping trip in the middle of the first night because of a sudden rainstorm and the discovery that our tent wasn't water tight. I was glad thought because I was NOT sleeping.

And I love your little map. What a cute mom. (by the way it's McGyver, which I only know because as kids Anne and I made up a cheer: "Go, McGyver, M-C-G-Y-V-E-R!" Oh dear.)

What a little stinker. But he's a cute one! Knowing Felix, I can just imagine what kind of trouble he was getting into. I'm impressed you even tried camping. We're determined to go camping later this summer, but we'll see. I hope the car sickness won't be a problem when you come for the reunion. The treasure map was very resourceful and creative of you. I may have to steal that idea someday.

What a misadventure! I love the picture of all the kids "trying" to stick their feet in the freezing waters. This will help prepare us for wahtever camping trip we have in the near future....thanks!
