Zoe's baptism day

In our church, when a child reaches the age of 8, they can choose to be baptized. We have talked about this important decision for a long time. Zoe wanted to be baptized. It is such a special event, that both sets of grandparents came to be with us. When Zoe tried on her white dress I thought, "This is such a big deal!"
What a special day. I remember when Zoe was 5 days old and was given a name and a blessing from her father. We gathered in our tiny little apartment living room. I hadn't gotten much sleep the night before, but it didn't matter. Both Travis's and my parents were present, along with my brother and sister-in-law and our dear life-long friends. The potent spirit of love and reverence was there. It was so peaceful and calm. Zoe slept through all of it. She was dressed in the white dress that my grandmother had made, that I had worn at my blessing.
All of these memories and feelings were aroused in me as I prepared to go to the church for the baptism.

The program included a talk about baptism by Travis's mother, a prayer by my father, and my mother played the piano while my father and I sang, "Baptism".
Zoe's baptism and confirmation were preformed by her father. How grateful I am to him for being worthy to preform this sacred ordinance.

Just like at Zoe's baby blessing, we were surrounded by family and loving friends. We received many words of congratulations from people who couldn't attend. Thank you to everyone who came, or sent your love. This is a big day for Zoe, and also for her parents :)

Beautiful!! Congratulations to everyone and especially Zoe. We're so proud of your decision and example. I showed Kannon the pictures and how we were all related, even to G., L., and K. Samuelson, and he just beamed. He sure can't wait for his big day this Saturday. We love you guys, and even though you are far away, we feel very close to you...maybe it has to do with being able to play with your cousins ;) Enjoy and good luck with your move. We're thinking of you often!

What a milestone. And she is beautiful (and so is her mom)! My David turned 8 in Sept. and will be baptized soon. I'm pretty sure he and Zoe should hook up in a few years. Okay? Okay.

And how nice to see your mom and dad! It's been. . . what? 13, 14 years? Yikes!

Melissa, we have Zoe's baptism announcement on our fridge (thank you for sending it even when you know we couldn't make it) and the boys have reminded me several times either that it's coming, or that we missed it. They were sad when I told them we weren't going to make it. It's so fun to see her sweet, smiling face when I go to get food out. I'm glad it was a great day!
